Staff Capacity Building on Result-Based Monitoring and Evaluation
As part of HOPA’s commitment to improving project effectiveness and accountability, a one-day internal training session on Result-Based Monitoring and Evaluation (RBM&E) was held for all staff. The training aimed to enhance understanding of how M&E contributes to measuring real outcomes and strengthening humanitarian impact.
The session was delivered by HOPA’s M&E Officer, Jamil Wali, and took place in two shifts to ensure full participation from both field and office staff without disrupting operations. Staff from Central Office, Regional Coordination (RC), and KTC were all able to attend, making it a truly inclusive capacity-building effort.
To measure learning, participants completed a pre-test before the training and a post-test afterwards. The results showed clear improvement in understanding key M&E concepts like the result chain, SMART indicators, and the importance of monitoring for decision-making. Many participants showed a 30% or greater improvement in their post-test scores.
Feedback from staff was overwhelmingly positive. Participants found the training simple, relevant, and practical, especially as it included real examples from HOPA’s ongoing humanitarian work, including WFP-funded projects. The presentation helped them see how their day-to-day tasks contribute to broader project goals and community impact.
HOPA plans to continue such initiatives to strengthen team skills and promote a results-oriented culture across all departments.
